Communication Devices Mind Map

History of ICT

The first ICT was created in the 19th century when there was mass development and distribution of telephones to the public. This created small disconnected ICT clumps world wide. In the middle of the 20th century, the internet became the first world wide online ICT, which revolutionized communication.

These devices allow for a quick and convenient flow of information throughout a community or group of people (in our case the classroom), which creates greater continuity and interconnectedness. They allow us to view assignments and instructions, send our work to our teacher online, or ask questions virtually.

Negatives

However, the ICT comes with some drawbacks. It is very expensive and time consuming to implement and maintain. It also comes with potential problems that could cause disruptions. For instance, there can be a power outage or system error which exploits everyone's overreliance on technology and renders everyone helpless. Technology can be as much a hindrance as it can be an aid as it can distract us from our goals and everyday life.

No money? No time?

Summary

The main benefits of ICT for communication are its ease of use, the content of the communication (images, videos, etc), and its availability as 99% of the population already has a device. But there are some drawbacks such as an overreliance on technology, the cost and time needed to buy and maintain the network, and becoming a potential distraction for users.
